While recycling of plastics continues to increase, the consumption of plastics in packaging and other products also continues to rise. The net result is that increasing amounts of plastic are going to landfill. This trend will continue as more durable plastics, such as waste electronics and electrical equipment, enter the waste stream.
As the global plastics market looks for sustainable, eco-friendly production options, bioplastics are rapidly growing as a preferred means of supply. Some reports forecast bioplastics will account for up to 30% of all plastics by the year 2020.
A growing interest in green plastics technology will see the Bioplastics pavilion return as a key feature at this year’s Australian packaging exhibition, AUSPACK PLUS.
