The Australasian Bioplastics Association (ABA) represents Members in promotion and advocacy for Member’s products, throughout Australia and New Zealand.
The ABA administers a voluntary certification scheme for verification of products claiming conformance or performance to Australian Standards AS 4736-2006 and AS 5810-2010. This verification scheme is open to Members and non-Members alike.
The voluntary certification scheme has been running successfully for a number of years and is recognised by government departments, brand owners, the compost industry and other relevant bodies. Certain retail tenders for packaging have specified theABAcertification as mandatory for a conforming bid.
The seedling logo is a guarantee that the product or material is certified compostable when accompanied by the licence number as depicted to the left.
The use of the seedling logo is provided under licence from the European Bioplastiocs Association (EuBP). Further details on European Bioplastics can be found here – http://en.european-bioplastics.org/.
Members of the Association are bound by a Code of Conduct and the Rules of Association as agreed to when admitted.
The ABA meets quarterly with an Annual General Meeting in November of each year. The Quarterly Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the first month of each quarter. Members are encouraged to attend and hear first hand what is developing in this exciting marketplace.
Furthermore Australasian Bioplastics provides support to its members in numerous ways:
- Opportunities for involvement: Members contribute to steering the course of the association in the General Assembly. In addition, they can contribute their expert knowledge in working groups that develop positions on relevant issues.
